Our PIPC team provides complete maternity care for low-risk pregnant women and those who may develop other medical conditions or complications in pregnancy. This includes prenatal care in office, delivery in hospital and care after delivery both for mother and baby. We may also share care with specialist colleagues for women and infants.
The Family Medicine approach supports natural childbirth and pregnancy and we also care for
women with epidurals, and other pain management. We do inductions of labour as
indicated, trial of labour for vaginal birth after caesarean section, and with an Obstetrician
present, perform vacuum-assisted deliveries. Should a caesarean section be required, our
physicians will assist the Obstetrician in the operating room. Our physicians will care for both
you and your newborn in hospital and work to keep you together for the best start. In addition,
our physicians provide counselling on family planning, birth control, IUD/ IUS insertion and
diaphragm fitting.
We promote long-term relationships with your health care provider (Family Doctor or
Nurse Practitioner) and keep communications open with them. This continues as
mother and baby return to their health care provider. Our team lactation
consultants, social workers, and dietitian are available to you in pregnancy
and for 6 weeks postpartum and will communicate with your FHT professionals.
We are a member agency of the Kawartha Food Share and have a Clothing Cupboard
for gently used newborn and maternity items. Donations are greatly appreciated.
